Labels and translations

Plan: every plan, including Free. The social proof label is only shown with social proof, which needs Pro and up.

The Labels tab (page heading “Labels and customer accounts”) holds the words on Cove’s buttons and messages, in every language your store sells in, and the layout of the “My wishlist” page in customer accounts.

Cove’s storefront texts come translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. Any label you leave unedited shows in the shopper’s storefront language, so a French shopper sees French without you doing anything. A storefront language Cove doesn’t ship (for example Portuguese) shows English unless you add your own words for it.

Each label is up to 80 characters.

With Language set to Default, each field shows the label used in every language.

  • An untouched field says “Translated for each storefront language”: shoppers see Cove’s translation for their language.
  • Once you change a field, it says “Edited: replaces the translation in every language”: every shopper sees your words, whatever their language.
  • To go back to translations, put the English default back (or clear the field). A label equal to Cove’s English default counts as unedited.

To use your own words in one language only, add that language:

  1. Type its code in Add a language, for example fr, or a code with a region such as pt-BR, and click Add.
  2. The Language select switches to it. Type your words in the fields you want to change. Each empty field shows in grey what that language shows without your override.
  3. Click Save.

You can add up to 20 languages. Codes must be a two-letter language code, optionally with a region (fr, pt-BR). To delete a language’s overrides, choose it in Language and click Remove followed by its code (for example Remove fr).

For each label, Cove uses the first of these that exists:

  1. Your override for the shopper’s exact language (for example pt-BR).
  2. Your override for its base language (pt).
  3. Your edited default label (Default language).
  4. Cove’s translation for the shopper’s language.
  5. English.

So a label you leave empty in a language falls back down this list, never to a blank.

The theme editor has no label settings: words are only set here.

The texts on the wishlist and shared pages (headings, empty state, sign-in prompt) are on the Pages tab. They follow the same idea: a text left empty or equal to its English default shows in the shopper’s language; a text you type shows in every language. There are no per-language overrides for page texts in the Studio.

Words in alert and reminder emails are set in Alerts, not here. See alert emails.

That page’s words are Cove’s own, in the same six languages, following the customer’s language. The labels above don’t apply there.
