Turn on the app embed

Plan: every plan, including Free. Two settings need a paid plan: Save for later (Starter and up) and the Klaviyo and Omnisend events (Pro and Premium).

The app embed loads Cove on every page of your storefront. It adds the hearts on product cards, the wishlist link, the message shoppers see after a save, and the configuration the other Cove blocks rely on. Without the embed, nothing from Cove works on your store, including the product page button.

  1. In Cove, open Home and click Open theme editor on the first step of the setup guide. This opens the theme editor on App embeds with Cove already selected. Or go to Online Store › Themes, click Customize on your live theme, then click the App embeds icon in the left sidebar.
  2. Switch on Cove Wishlist.
  3. Click Save.

The setup guide’s first step completes itself once Shopify reports the embed as on in your live (published) theme. If you turned it on in a theme you haven’t published yet, the guide won’t see it until you publish that theme. See the setup guide.

The theme editor holds placement, not looks

Section titled “The theme editor holds placement, not looks”

The embed’s settings only place and wire things up: which elements get hearts, where the wishlist link goes, cart options and integrations. You won’t find any icon, colour, size, label or corner setting here. Those live in Cove’s Design Studio, so the theme editor can never disagree with what you designed.

Until you save a design in the Studio, your store shows Cove’s default look (the Minimal preset).

The settings below appear when you click Cove Wishlist under App embeds, grouped under the same headings as in the theme editor.

These two pickers are only used when you choose Shopify font library for a font in the Design Studio (Design › Button › Typography). Otherwise Cove uses your theme’s font or the system font you picked there, and these pickers do nothing.

Setting What it does Default
Cove text font The font for Cove’s buttons, messages and wishlist pages, when the Studio’s Font is set to Shopify font library. Loaded from Shopify’s own font library. Assistant
Wishlist page heading font The font for the wishlist and shared page headings, when the Studio’s Heading font is set to Shopify font library. Assistant

The notice is the short message shown after a shopper saves or removes an item. See the save message.

Setting What it does Default
Notice duration How long the message stays on screen, 1 to 8 seconds. Only used until you save a design: after that, the Design Studio’s Message shows for (Design › Cards) sets it instead. A message with an Undo or Change button always stays at least 6 seconds. 3 s
Ask guests to sign in after Once a guest (a shopper who isn’t signed in) has saved this many items, the message adds a sign-in link so they can keep their wishlist on every device. 1 to 10. See guest wishlists. 3

Hearts on the product cards in collections, search and product recommendations. See card hearts.

Setting What it does Default
Show hearts on product cards Adds a heart to every product card the embed recognises. Turn off if you’d rather not have card hearts, or if you place them with the card heart block instead. On
Theme How Cove finds your product cards. Detect automatically uses Dawn’s cards when the page has them, otherwise Horizon’s, otherwise the selector below. Dawn and Horizon force that theme’s cards. Custom selector uses only the selector below. Cards that already hold the Cove card heart block are left alone. Detect automatically
Product card selector For themes other than Dawn and Horizon: the CSS selector of one product card, for example .product-card. Used with Custom selector, or when automatic detection finds neither Dawn nor Horizon cards. Empty

The button or header icon that opens the wishlist. Where it shows (floating button, header or hidden) is set in Design › Cards › Wishlist link. See the wishlist link.

Setting What it does Default
Show the wishlist link Turn off to hide the wishlist link everywhere, whatever the Design Studio says. On
Header icons selector Only used when the Design Studio puts the wishlist link In the header menu. Dawn and Horizon get it next to the cart icon with nothing to type. For other themes, enter the CSS selector of the header icons, for example .header__icons. If no header is found, the floating button shows instead. Empty (Dawn and Horizon detected)
Wishlist page URL Optional. Send “View wishlist” and the wishlist link to a different page on your store, starting with /, for example /pages/wishlist. Only a path on your own store is accepted; anything else is ignored and Cove’s wishlist page is used. Leave empty for Cove’s wishlist page. Empty (/apps/wishlist)

Save for later on cart lines. See save for later.

Setting What it does Default
Show Save for later on cart items Starter and up. Adds a “Save for later” link to every cart line, on the cart page and in the cart drawer, that moves the item from the cart to the wishlist. Uses the Theme chosen under Product cards. On the Free plan the link doesn’t show even when this is ticked. Off
Cart line selector For themes other than Dawn and Horizon: the CSS selector of one cart line, for example .cart-item. The line must contain the theme’s remove button. Empty
Load Save for later on every page Only needed if your theme has a cart drawer that Save for later doesn’t appear in. Dawn and Horizon need nothing. Off
Setting What it does Default
Load custom elements For theme developers: loads the cove-button, cove-count and cove-link elements. Leave off unless your theme uses them. See custom elements. Off
Send wishlist events to Klaviyo Pro and Premium. Sends wishlist events to Klaviyo through the Klaviyo script already on your store. Cove stores no Klaviyo key and sends no email address. See Klaviyo and Omnisend. Off
Send wishlist events to Omnisend Pro and Premium. The same for Omnisend, through the Omnisend snippet already on your store. Off
App proxy path The path of your wishlist page. Change it only if you renamed Cove’s app proxy in your Shopify admin. /apps/wishlist
  • Check that you clicked Save in the theme editor, and that you edited the theme that is live.
  • Check that the hearts and link aren’t turned off here (Show hearts on product cards, Show the wishlist link) or set to Hidden in the Design Studio.
  • On themes other than Dawn and Horizon, card hearts need a Product card selector.
