Accessibility

Plan: every plan, including Free.

Cove’s storefront pieces are built to WCAG 2.2 level AA. Every piece is tested the way it ships, in each state (saved, the save message with Undo and Change, the Change panel, Notify me with an error, Save for later, each wishlist page), with an automated accessibility checker, and a release fails if it finds a serious or critical problem. Keyboard-only paths are tested too.

Everything works without a mouse:

  • Saving: Wishlist button, card hearts and the heart over the image are real buttons: Enter or Space saves.
  • The save message: it never steals focus. Press Tab right after saving to move into its links and buttons (View wishlist, Undo, Change). It stays on screen while focus is in it. Escape, or using one of its buttons, closes it and puts focus back on the button you pressed.
  • Change panel: a real dialog. Focus moves into it and stays there, the page behind can’t be reached, Escape closes it, and focus returns where it was. Ticking a list keeps focus on that tick box.
  • Wishlist page: removing a card moves focus to the next card’s title; Undo brings focus back. Note, Move to, Manage lists and Share open dialogs that work the same way as the Change panel. Deleting a list, getting a new link and stopping sharing each ask in a second dialog first.
  • Notify me: focus moves into the email field when the form opens, and to the confirmation message when it’s sent. An invalid address is flagged on the field.
  • Save for later: a button on each cart line.
  • Buttons are named by the text you see. When the Wishlist button switches from “Add to wishlist” to “Saved to wishlist”, its name changes with it, and its pressed state is announced. Only icon-only buttons carry a name of their own.
  • Card hearts are named after their product: “Save Linen Shirt to wishlist”.
  • Save for later buttons say which item: “Save for later: Linen Shirt”.
  • The save message is a status message: read out politely, without moving focus.
  • The wishlist link’s name includes the count (“Wishlist 3”), not just an icon.
  • On the wishlist page, each card’s buttons (Remove, Add to cart, Note, Move to) are described by the product’s title, so “Remove” is never ambiguous. Struck-through prices are announced as the regular price.

When a shopper’s device is set to reduce motion, Cove turns off its transitions (the heart, the message) and plays no save animation. Save animations (Pro) otherwise play only on the button the shopper pressed, never when a page loads.

Every Cove control is at least 24 × 24 pixels, the WCAG 2.2 minimum, including card hearts at their smallest mobile size.

Your design’s colours are yours to choose, so the Design Studio checks them for you. On Button, a Low contrast warning lists any pair that falls short:

  • the icon against its background: at least 3:1,
  • text (the button label on its fill or on the page, the save message, the badge): at least 4.5:1.

Every Cove preset passes. The warning doesn’t stop you saving.

The account page is built from Shopify’s own customer account components, which handle focus, dialogs and contrast with your customer accounts branding.
