Troubleshooting

Plan: every plan, including Free. Some fixes depend on a plan; each says so.

Each entry below is a symptom, its usual causes and the fix. Most storefront problems come down to the app embed or a theme editor setting, so start there.

Section titled “No hearts, no wishlist link, nothing from Cove on the storefront”
  • The app embed is off. In Shopify admin open Online Store › Themes › Customize, then App embeds, switch on Cove Wishlist and click Save. Hearts, the wishlist link, notices and the product button’s behaviour all come from the embed. See App embed.
  • You’re looking at a different theme. The embed is set per theme. Turn it on in the theme you’re previewing, and in your live theme.
  • The app is paused on your store. In an emergency Cove can switch off its storefront features on a store (see Security); nothing shows until it’s switched back on. You’d hear from us if this happened.
  • Show hearts on product cards is off in the app embed’s Product cards settings.
  • Your theme isn’t detected. With Theme on Detect automatically, Cove recognises Dawn-style and Horizon-style product cards. For other themes, set Theme to Custom selector and type the CSS selector of one product card in Product card selector, for example .product-card. See Card hearts and Theme compatibility.
  • The card already holds the Cove card heart block. Cards with the block are left alone, so the block’s heart is the one that shows.

The product page button is missing or does nothing

Section titled “The product page button is missing or does nothing”
  • The block isn’t on the product template, is hidden, or wasn’t saved. In the theme editor open a product template, add the Wishlist button block to the product information section and click Save. See Product button.
  • The app embed is off. The button needs the embed to work.
  • Your theme doesn’t support app blocks (it isn’t an Online Store 2.0 theme). The setup guide says so on Home. Use an Online Store 2.0 theme, such as Dawn or Horizon.
Section titled “The wishlist link shows as a floating button instead of in the header”

When the Design Studio puts the wishlist link In the header menu, Cove looks for your theme’s header icons. Dawn and Horizon need nothing; on other themes, type the CSS selector of the header icons in the app embed’s Header icons selector, for example .header__icons. If no header is found, the floating button shows instead, so the link is never lost. See Launcher.

If no wishlist link shows at all, check Show the wishlist link in the embed’s Wishlist link settings.

The wishlist page at /apps/wishlist shows “page not found”

Section titled “The wishlist page at /apps/wishlist shows “page not found””
  • The app proxy was renamed in Shopify admin. Set the new path in the app embed’s App proxy path (Advanced), so the storefront calls the right address.
  • A custom Wishlist page URL in the embed points somewhere that doesn’t exist. Clear it to use Cove’s wishlist page. It accepts only a page on your store starting with /.

Shoppers see “Couldn’t update your wishlist. Please try again.” when saving.

Your store reached its monthly wishlist actions. New saves pause until the 1st of next month (UTC) or a plan change; removes, moves and existing lists keep working. Home and Plans show a banner. See Monthly action quota.

Guests are asked to sign in when they save

Section titled “Guests are asked to sign in when they save”

The notice says “Sign in to save items to your wishlist”: Let shoppers save without an account is off in Settings › General, under Shoppers. Tick it to let guests save. See Guest wishlists.

The “Sign in to keep it on every device” link that appears after a guest’s third save is a different thing: it’s a suggestion, set by Ask guests to sign in after in the embed’s Notices settings.

Save for later doesn’t show on cart lines

Section titled “Save for later doesn’t show on cart lines”

Plan: Starter and up.

  • Show Save for later on cart items is off in the app embed’s Cart settings.
  • Your plan is Free. The setting can be on, but the button shows only on Starter and up.
  • Your theme’s cart isn’t detected. Dawn and Horizon need nothing. For other themes, type the CSS selector of one cart line in Cart line selector; the line must hold the theme’s remove button.
  • A cart drawer on another page. Tick Load Save for later on every page if your theme’s drawer is missing the button.
  • Lines whose remove button the theme hides, and bundle lines inside another line, get no button on purpose.

See Save for later.

  • Every variant is in stock. The block shows only when the product has at least one sold-out variant when the page loads.
  • The block isn’t placed. Add the Notify me when available block to the product template in the theme editor and click Save. See Notify me.

Shoppers see an error when they press Notify me

Section titled “Shoppers see an error when they press Notify me”
  • Your plan is Free, which includes no alert emails. Notify me needs Starter and up.
  • Back-in-stock emails are switched off on the Alerts page.
  • The variant is back in stock since the page loaded.

Plan: Starter and up.

  • The shopper paused sharing, or turned it off, or got a new link (the old one stops working). They can turn sharing back on from the wishlist page or My wishlist; a resumed link is the same link.
  • Your store’s plan is below Starter. Every share link answers “not found” until you upgrade; the links are kept and work again afterwards.

See Lists and sharing.

Custom icon, custom CSS, animations or social proof stopped showing

Section titled “Custom icon, custom CSS, animations or social proof stopped showing”

Plan: Pro and up.

Your store moved below Pro. These pause on the storefront (the heart icon shows instead of your icon) while your settings are kept; the Design Studio shows a “Paused on your store” banner. Moving back to Pro turns them on again. See Changing plans.

Social proof also needs at least the minimum number of shoppers you set to have saved the product, and its counts update overnight and when you save the design.

A change doesn’t show on the storefront yet

Section titled “A change doesn’t show on the storefront yet”
  • Design Studio changes need a Save in the Studio. Then reload the storefront page.
  • Plan changes reach the storefront the next time you open the app, or overnight at the latest.
  • Theme editor changes need Save in the theme editor.

Add the page in Shopify’s customer accounts editor, then add it to your account menu. My wishlist works with the new customer accounts only. See Account page.

Items show “No longer available” on My wishlist

Section titled “Items show “No longer available” on My wishlist”
  • The product was deleted, or isn’t published to your online store, so Shopify doesn’t return it. Shoppers can still remove the item.
  • The product details couldn’t be loaded (for example a connection problem). Every item shows as unavailable then; reloading usually fixes it.

There’s no Add to cart on some My wishlist items

Section titled “There’s no Add to cart on some My wishlist items”

An item saved without a variant, on a product with several variants, links to the product page so the shopper can choose options. Sold-out items have no Add to cart either. See My wishlist.

  • The guide reads your live (published) theme only. A change made on an unpublished theme doesn’t count until it’s published.
  • Click Check again on Home after saving in the theme editor; the guide also re-checks when you come back to the tab.
  • The app embed step completes when the embed is on and saved in the live theme. The product button step completes when the block is on the live theme’s product template, saved and not hidden.
  • The My wishlist step completes once Shopify reports the page placed, or once a customer opens it. You can mark it, and the product button step, as done yourself.
  • The design step completes when you save in the Design Studio.
  • A hint under a checked step says why: off, not saved or hidden; or “doesn’t support app blocks”, meaning the theme isn’t an Online Store 2.0 theme.

See Setup guide.

Plan: Starter and up.

Check, in this order:

  1. Your plan. Free includes no alert emails.
  2. The monthly email limit (200 on Starter, 2,000 on Pro, 5,000 on Premium). Past it, alerts wait until the 1st of next month and the Alerts page shows a banner.
  3. The alert type is switched on on the Alerts page. Low-stock emails are off by default.
  4. Double opt-in. With it on (the default), a guest’s Notify me request is sent nothing until they click the confirmation link in their inbox; unconfirmed requests are deleted after 7 days.
  5. Consent for saved-item alerts. Price-drop, low-stock and back-in-stock emails about saved items (not Notify me requests) go only to signed-in customers subscribed to your email marketing in Shopify, and not to anyone who unsubscribed from Cove’s emails.
  6. Once a week per shopper. Each alert goes once per shopper, item and type every 7 days.
  7. Back-in-stock for saved items goes out only when Cove saw the variant sold out (or restocked in the last 24 hours), so turning on stock tracking for an item that never sold out sends nothing.
  8. The address bounced or marked an earlier email as spam; Cove stops emailing it for a year.

The Activity tab on the Alerts page shows counts of what was sent and what is waiting. See Activity.

Plan: Starter and up. Reminders are off by default: switch them on under Alerts › Reminders. They go to signed-in customers subscribed to your email marketing, about items saved at least the set number of days ago (default 7), not bought since, and on sale; at most one reminder per customer per cap period (default 30 days). See Reminders.

Stock comes from Shopify’s product update notifications. A product appears only after Shopify next reports a change to it, once every variant’s stock is known, and never when a variant keeps selling at zero stock. See Analytics.

Plan: Premium. Sales are counted from orders placed after the app was installed. Orders are protected customer data in Shopify, and Shopify sends them only to apps it has approved; if your store takes orders and the report stays empty, get in touch. See Wishlist revenue.

  • “Shopify hasn’t given Cove Wishlist access to customer emails on this store yet”: customer emails are protected customer data. Try again once access is approved.
  • “No customer with that email in your store”: the email in the file has no customer record in Shopify. Cove matches existing customers only.

See Import.

Your store is below Premium. Keys are kept and work again after an upgrade. See REST API.

Email contact@stackcraftdigital.co.uk with your store’s address and what you see. Pro includes priority email support, and Premium priority support within one business day.
