Add the wishlist button

Plan: every plan, including Free. The Notify me when available block needs Starter and up.

Cove has three theme app blocks. You add them in the theme editor like any other block. They need the app embed to be on: without it they render but do nothing.

Block Where it goes Needed?
Wishlist button Product page, in the product information section Yes, for a save button on product pages
Wishlist heart (card) Inside product cards, on themes whose cards take app blocks Only if you prefer it to the embed’s card hearts
Notify me when available Product page, in the product information section Only if you use back-in-stock alert emails

Like the embed, these blocks only place things. Their icon, button style, label, colours and corner come from the Design Studio. Until you save a design, they use Cove’s default look (the Minimal preset).

  1. In Cove, open Home and click Add button on the setup guide’s second step. The theme editor opens on your product template with the block ready to add. Or go to Online Store › Themes › Customize, open a product page, and in the product information section click Add block and choose Wishlist button under Apps.
  2. Drag the block where you want it, for example just under the theme’s Add to cart button.
  3. Click Save.

The setup guide’s step completes itself once Shopify reports the block on your live theme’s product page.

Setting What it does Default
Product The product the button saves. Filled in automatically on the product page; only set it if you place the block somewhere without a product, such as a featured product section. The page’s product
Position Where the block is placed shows the button in the block’s own spot. Over the product image shows a round heart in a top corner of the product image gallery instead. Where the block is placed
Product image selector Optional, for Over the product image. Dawn’s and Horizon’s galleries are found with nothing to type. For other themes, enter the CSS selector of the product image gallery, for example .product__media. If no gallery is found, the heart shows where the block is placed. Empty

The heart over the image uses the corner set in Design › Cards › Heart position, always at the top (a bottom corner is moved to the top, since the bottom of a gallery is often thumbnails). See the heart over the product image.

What the button does for shoppers, and the social proof line under it (Pro), is on the product page button.

Most stores don’t need this block: the app embed already adds hearts to product cards on Dawn, Horizon and themes where you set a card selector. Use the block on themes whose product cards accept app blocks (such as Horizon) when you want to place the heart yourself in the card. A card that holds this block is skipped by the embed, so it never gets two hearts.

Setting What it does Default
Product The product the heart saves. Filled in automatically inside a product card. The card’s product
Position Over the image (top right) puts the heart over the card image. Once you save a design, it uses the corner from Design › Cards › Heart position instead of top right. In line shows it where the block sits in the card. Over the image (top right)

See card hearts.

Starter and up. Shoppers on a sold-out variant can ask to be emailed when it’s back in stock. Turn on alert emails in Alerts first (see alert emails), then:

  1. Open a product page in the theme editor.
  2. In the product information section, click Add block and choose Notify me when available.
  3. Drag it where you want it, for example under Add to cart, and click Save.

The block shows only when the selected variant is sold out. It has one setting:

Setting What it does Default
Product The product to watch. Filled in automatically on the product page. The page’s product

See Notify me for what shoppers see.
