FAQ

Plan: every plan, including Free. Answers that depend on a plan say so.

The same questions and answers as the public FAQ at covewishlist.com/faq.

No. The app has no permission to write themes, script tags or pages. Its storefront code ships as a Shopify theme app extension, so uninstalling the app removes it. The one write permission is the app proxy route that lets Shopify send /apps/wishlist to the app.

It reads products, customers and new orders (orders only to report the sales your wishlists bring in), reads your product listings for the customer account page, and has the app proxy permission. It cannot change your products, customers, orders, themes or pages. The Security page lists each permission and why.

Do shoppers need an account to save items?

Section titled “Do shoppers need an account to save items?”

No. Guests can save items and the list is kept in their browser. When they sign in, the guest list merges into their account list. You can switch guest saving off in Settings.

On the wishlist page at /apps/wishlist, through the header counter or floating launcher, and inside new customer accounts under My wishlist once you add the page in the customer accounts editor.

Open the app and follow the checklist on Home: switch on the app embed in the theme editor, add the wishlist button to the product page, pick a look in the Design Studio, and add My wishlist to customer accounts.

Icons, colours, labels, sizes, positions, the wishlist page layout and ready-made presets are available on every plan. Pro adds custom icons, save animations, social proof and scoped custom CSS. Custom JavaScript is never allowed, on any plan.

How do back-in-stock and price-drop alerts work?

Section titled “How do back-in-stock and price-drop alerts work?”

From Starter up, the app emails them itself, branded with your design and in six languages. Shoppers ask for an alert with a button on a sold-out item; guests enter an email and tick a consent box. Signed-in customers can also hear about price drops and low stock on saved items if they subscribed to your email marketing. Each alert goes once per shopper, item and type every seven days, with a one-click unsubscribe, and sends per month depend on your plan. Shopify Flow triggers for the same events are included too, for your own workflows.

Can I import lists from another wishlist app?

Section titled “Can I import lists from another wishlist app?”

Yes. Upload a CSV on the Import page. The app recognises three layouts, matches rows to your customers by email and to your products by ID, SKU or product link, and shows a preview with the rows it would skip and why. Nothing is saved until you confirm. Guest lists that live in shoppers’ browsers alone cannot be moved by anyone.

Shopify customer and product IDs, list names and save dates. It does not store names, phone numbers or addresses. The one email address it stores is the one a guest gives for a back-in-stock alert: encrypted, never shown to you, and deleted once the alert is sent (180 days at most). Emails in an import file are used in memory during the import and never saved. Removed items are deleted after 90 days, and all store data is deleted when Shopify sends the shop erasure request after uninstall.

Each plan includes a monthly number of wishlist actions: 500 on Free, 3,000 on Starter, 10,000 on Pro and 25,000 on Premium. An action is a shopper adding an item; removing, moving, sharing, adding to cart and importing don’t count. At the limit, new saves pause until the next month or an upgrade. Saved wishlists are never deleted and there is no lifetime storage cap.

Online Store 2.0 themes, which support app embeds and app blocks. If a theme card does not accept the heart as a block, the app can attach hearts through a CSS selector you set in the theme editor.
