Theme compatibility

Plan: every plan, including Free.

Cove works with Online Store 2.0 themes: themes that support app embeds and app blocks. Dawn and Horizon need no setup beyond turning Cove on; other themes may need a CSS selector or two, typed in the theme editor.

Older “vintage” themes don’t support app blocks, so the Wishlist button, card heart and Notify me blocks can’t be added to them, and Cove doesn’t support them. The setup guide tells you when your live theme doesn’t support app blocks. Moving to an Online Store 2.0 theme such as Dawn or Horizon fixes it.

Feature Dawn Horizon Other themes
Card hearts Yes Yes Product card selector, unless the theme uses Dawn’s or Horizon’s card markup
Wishlist link in the header Yes Yes Header icons selector
Heart over the product image Yes Yes Product image selector
Save for later on cart lines (page and drawer) Yes Yes Cart line selector
Wishlist button follows the selected variant Yes Yes Yes, for themes with a standard add-to-cart form
Wishlist page Yes Yes Yes

When a selector is left empty or doesn’t match, Cove falls back to something that still works: no card hearts rather than broken ones, the floating wishlist button instead of the header icon, the heart in line where the block is placed instead of over the image, and no Save for later button on lines it can’t read.

Theme Product card selector Header icons selector Notes
Dawn Not needed Not needed Everything automatic. Dawn’s cards don’t accept app blocks, so use automatic card hearts.
Horizon Not needed Not needed Everything automatic. Its cards also accept the Wishlist heart (card) block.
Prestige Not needed (detected like Horizon’s cards) nav.header__secondary-nav > ul The header selector is our suggestion from the theme’s markup; check it on your version.
Impulse .grid-product__content .site-nav__icons Impulse styles its own buttons differently, so the wishlist page’s buttons use Cove’s own look.

Other Shopify themes built on Dawn’s card markup are detected as Dawn. If a theme update stops putting the product ID where Cove reads it on Dawn or Horizon cards, those hearts keep working by looking the product up from the card’s link instead.

All in the theme editor, App embeds › Cove Wishlist, except the image one:

Setting Section in the app embed What to point it at
Product card selector Product cards One product card, which must contain a link to the product (/products/...). Set Theme to Custom selector, or leave it on Detect automatically.
Header icons selector Wishlist link The element that holds your header icons (cart, account). Used when the Design Studio’s wishlist link is In the header menu.
Cart line selector Cart One line in the cart. It must contain the theme’s remove button.
Product image selector Wishlist button block (Position: Over the product image) The product’s main image gallery.
  1. Open your store in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, right-click the element (a product card, the header icons, a cart line) and choose Inspect.
  2. In the panel that opens, move up from the highlighted element until the whole card, header icon group or cart line is highlighted on the page.
  3. Look at its class attribute and pick a class that every card (or line) shares, for example grid-product__content. Type it with a leading dot: .grid-product__content.
  4. Save the theme editor and reload a collection page (or cart, or product page) to check.

Use the selector of one card or line, not of the grid around them. If several classes are listed, the most specific shared one is usually best. A selector that isn’t valid CSS is ignored.

The wishlist page is rendered inside your theme with your header, footer and fonts. It uses your theme’s standard button style and, when the theme sets them, its page width and margins. On themes that don’t style a standard button class, Cove gives the page’s buttons a look of its own, in your design’s colours and corners.
