Languages
Plan: every plan, including Free.
Everything shoppers see from Cove ships in six languages:
| Language | Code |
|---|---|
| English (default) | en |
| French | fr |
| German | de |
| Spanish | es |
| Italian | it |
| Dutch | nl |
- Storefront: the Wishlist button, card hearts, the save message and Change panel, Notify me, Save for later and the wishlist link.
- Wishlist page and shared page: every heading, button and message on the wishlist page.
- Customer account: the My wishlist page.
- Emails to shoppers: alert emails, confirmation emails and reminders.
- Your summary email: in the language you pick in its settings. See Summary email.
The Cove admin is in English only.
How the shopper’s language is chosen
Section titled “How the shopper’s language is chosen”Cove follows the language the shopper is browsing your store in, the one Shopify serves the page in (set by your store’s languages and Markets). On the account page it follows the customer’s account language. Regional variants use their base language: a shopper browsing in fr-CA sees French.
A shopper in a language Cove doesn’t ship (Portuguese, say) sees English, unless you have added that language’s words yourself (below).
Emails go out in the language the shopper used when they signed up for the alert, or their customer account’s language. Any other language gets English.
Changing the words
Section titled “Changing the words”In Design › Labels you can change the storefront words: the button, the saved button, the saved and removed messages, View wishlist, the sign-in prompt, the error message, the wishlist name and the social proof line.
For each word, Cove picks, in this order:
- Your text for the shopper’s language, if you added that language under Add a language (exact code first, such as
pt-BR, then the base language,pt). Up to 20 languages. - Your edited default, if you changed the default text. It then replaces the translation in every language.
- Cove’s translation for the shopper’s language.
- English.
A default you haven’t edited stays translated. That’s why the Studio says “Translated for each storefront language” under an untouched field, and “Edited: replaces the translation in every language” once you change it. To get the translation back, set the field to exactly the original English text.
The wishlist page’s texts are edited in Design › Pages and follow the same rule: a text left as the English default shows in the shopper’s language. Email subjects and intros can be set per language on the Alert emails and Reminders pages.
The My wishlist page in customer accounts always uses Cove’s own translations; its words can’t be changed.
